Education as a Metaphysical Phenomenon

Abstract

The author treats the phenomenon of education from a metaphysical perspective. Such an approach highlights the problem of man as a being in the making towards the full experience of his existence. The metaphysics of education explores the essential plane of the human being – the one located „beyond” („meta”) the corporeal, physical-biological substratum, defined in the science of man as „spirit/spirituality”, taken in a broad sense. The author then proceeds to define the basic notions of this approach by formulating a set of key questions, which the metaphysics of education aims to answer in order to identify a new perspective in relation to the traditional pedagogical treatment of the phenomenon. He brings arguments in favor of the topicality of a metaphysical approach to education in the conditions of the „technological” spirit dominating contemporary life and school.
